    DRUG ABUSE SOLUTIONS Prevention: parents can prevent drug abuse! Parents are the best protection youngsters can have against drug abuse. Prevention is the process, which builds into children a resistance to abusing drugs, so that drug use never begins. Prevention is a simple concept but it requires constant work to be successful.   Before a person can enter drug abuse treatment, they must first be diagnosed with a drug addiction. This can be done by a general doctor or an addiction specialist, such as a licensed counselor or psychologist.

      It is still rare for a person struggling with alcohol abuse to be prescribed naltrexone or acamprosate, two medications that have been proven to help. Efforts are underway to change that. While screening and assessment identify the offender's need for substance abuse and other treatment services, and triage and placement services match the offender to the proper treatment, the treatment plan is where the information gathered is used to put treatment into practice.
